The Sustainability Council of the SCAA looks forward to the opportunity for stronger collaboration with our counterparts in Europe. We believe this will help our industry be more effective in supporting farming communities and tackling the systemic sustainability challenges we face.
These sustainability challenges are not unique to specific market regions. They are not unique to specific coffee producing regions. Challenges such as climate change, gender inequality, labor shortages, and human rights abuses not only affect coffee farming communities, but also the future of specialty coffee, globally. They bind all of us working in the specialty coffee industry together.
Unification with the SCAE provides an opportunity for us to do more and to include resources and perspectives from different parts of the supply chain and different geographical regions in our work to make coffee sustainable. It will allow us to better coordinate our efforts with our European colleagues working on the same issues. Together, we can have a stronger voice in global sustainability discussions and support our partner farmers, workers and their communities more effectively.
As a council, we hope to take advantage of the opportunities that unification offers. We believe that specialty coffee is a global community, and that the unification process is an opportunity to better serve this community.
